Myles Akeem Singleton
Height: 5'7
Weight: Comfortably fed .
Birth date: March 15, 1983 (and no, I don't drink!)
Instrument: Trumpet/flugelhorn
Favorite brand of music: Any that I can play well. Oh yeah, jazz too!
Current college institution: Illinois State University
Degrees pursued: BA/BS in Music/Computer Science (in case I ever chip a tooth!)
Favorite jazz chart: Amongst the Digerati. It is my first jazz-waltz original chart (Digerati means “computer experts”).
Favorite jazz artist: Artoro Sandoval (what, not Miles Davis?!!)
Hobbies: Anything dealing with football, video games, computer programming, or occasional weightlifting (I've been a little lazy at that recently... must get back into shape!), I also play lots of music too!
Favorite quote: Results, not excuses!
Most known for: Calling everyone “sir” or “madam” (I forget names very easily)!
Motto: To be early is to be on time... to be on time is to be late... to be late is to be left behind (Theodore Lega, Joliet Central High School band director).
Why I joined the HJO: I've always longed to play with a group of talented and committed players. In the HJO, I'm surrounded by amazing musicians whom all perform at a high level. I really enjoy being a member of the trumpet section, where everyone has the potential to be a lead player. Being around such talent encourages me to improve in many aspects of my playing. I wish to share my experiences from this group with my fellow trumpet mates at ISU, where I am currently the Jazz I lead player. I'm also too short to make the school football team.
What I would do if I wasn't playing
with the HJO: I would listen to the HJO at the Coffeehouse.
Other groups I've played in: Various bands and groups at ISU,
Joliet American Legion, Joliet Township High Schools Alumni Band, Tom Fox and
the Brass Tracks Jazz Orchestra, small church groups.
I thank God
for allowing me to have so many opportunities to grow as a musician. I feel
blessed with the opportunity of becoming a HJO member.
